365 Mile Challenge

Join the challenge

In an effort to encourage people to get outdoors to move every day, regardless of the time of year, the 365 Mile Challenge was created. The brain-child of five outdoor bloggers and moms, the goal of the 365 Mile Challenge is to complete 365 self-propelled miles throughout the year.

As huge proponents of spending time in the outdoors, GCI Outdoor is proud to be a sponsor of this challenge. One of the benefits of being a participant in the challenge, is that you have access to their private Facebook group and once you join, you'll be amazed to see how engaged, excited and supportive this group is. They motivate one another on a daily basis and are creating bonds with people they’ve never met (from distances near and far)! The power of positivity and community is inspiring.

Other perks? Deals, giveaways and swag (including prizes from GCI Outdoor, of course!).

You have until January 15th to sign up for the challenge, so get moving!

Kathy Dalton, who is one of the founders of the 365 Mile Challenge as well as Go Adventure Mom, has provided us with some tips on how to get your miles in, even when staying warm inside and drinking hot cocoa sounds much more appealing. Tips for Getting Miles In Even When it's Frigid Out Hello! If you want to get out more this year, we’ve got a great challenge for you. The 365 Mile Challenge is all about getting in one self-propelled mile a day for the year. You can hike, bike, run, snowshoe, cross-country ski or paddle. But if you’re like me it’s a little hard to be inspired when it’s cold one. In some areas of the world, it’s incredibly cold. For those of you who want to get in miles, even when it’s frigid out, these tips are for you. Layer up buttercup Common sense says if you’re going to be outside, in below freezing temps, you need to layer. I’m not talking just a few layers, add a lot of layers. If you get too hot, you can always remove a few layers. Layering is seriously one of the best ways to get miles in, even when it’s frigid out. Bring something warm to drink One of  my favorite ways to stay warm, when it’s frigid out is by bringing something warm to drink. My go to drink is tea, but you could easily bring coffee or warm milk. Use an insulated thermos or something else that will keep your drink warm in the cold. Grab hand warmers to bring along Whenever you’re out in the really cold weather, it’s nice to have something to keep you warm. Bringing along disposable hand warmers is a great idea. Hands and feet (plus the face) always gets the coldest! It’s hard to layer those places.. However, hand warmers can really help! Get creative in the shoe department If your shoes are what are keeping you from going out in the cold weather, consider this. Wear Yaktracks or Snow Spikes. Both are great for walking in the cold weather, especially if you live in an area with a lot of snow. If you’ve never walked in Snow Spikes before, these are going to change your life. Wear a Balaclava Want to keep your face in the cold weather, as you do the 365 Mile Challenge? Make sure you grab a balaclava. These wonderful creations are designed to keep your face warm. They cover everything but your eyes. Another brand that makes something similar to the balaclava is Buff. They have awesome cold weather products like the slouchy hat, windproof Buff, and my favorite the neckwarmer and headliner Buff. Wear sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes from the cold. Bundle up Last, but not least, there are a lot of excuses to stay inside, like it’s cold out. However, using what you have in your house, BUNDLE up. You can buy extra stuff like the balaclava or snow spikes, but you can also get creative with what you have. This is what the 365 Mile Challenge is all about. Challenging ourselves to get out there, even in the cold, and get our self-propelled miles in. We got this! Sign Up for the Challenge Here!
